The Quartz is indeed part of the material used in the layers of the case's construction

 

It brings something interesting I think. RM could have just remained doing NTPT or Resin Nanotube only but they have a real pleasure in looking for something else and never stand still. It has a cost but still interesting to admire in pics! The NTPT or Quartz TPT are a great input in watchmaking; about reliability, scratch-proofness, rigidity, lightness, look etc...

About what you said on a kind of mechanical/electrical combination. I remember I thought about this kind of features 2 or 3 years ago.

I think it will not be very well welcome at the beginning from watch enthusiasts. However, I personally think it is a good idea to study. You know how it works: there are many ideas people weren't positive about but was finally accepted after a while.

This could work.

The only thing is that a simple mainspring barrel is certainly more reliable than a more complicated display.
