I've been in several "showrooms" where Richard Mille watches in the men's line have been on display. However, during my visits, certain makes on the floor drew my attention and I passed by the RM to spin the rotors and examine the bridges and balances of other models.
The other day I was in Westime (am I allowed to mention a store by name?) and I espied the RM-007-1, especially for ladies. Not too many of the manufacturers conceive of mechanical watches *especially* for me, so I owed Lady RM the courtesy of at least taking her out of the case.
Once I held 007 in my hand, I understood her name. Like James Bond, she can mix in any company, but she's also seductively dangerous. The case is understated and exquisite, a sensuous heft of rose gold and diamonds that sneak up on you like flashes of aesthetically perfect light. The date wheel, tucked in at 6 o'clock, is congruent with the overall design yet easily legible when specifically consulted.
And the rear: True, I've always enjoyed the view from behind. But I got caught in this spiderweb of PVD coated titanium plates and bridges -- and I didn't even put up a fight to get set free.
I knew it was imprudent at this point to take a wrist drive. Once Lady RM was strapped on, my heart leapt into gear and quickly bumped up against the red line. Reluctantly I got off the track and pulled into the pit.
Those few minutes with the Lady doing laps continue to thrill...
