Piaget as movement maker
What do the Cartier Tank Loius Cartier XL:

and the IWC Portuguese Pure Classic:

have in common, and why I am posting about them here on the Piaget forum?
They both use movements from Piaget! While Cartier's use of ultrathin Piaget calibres is well established, it is more than a little surprising to see one show up in an IWC.
The Cartier is based on the Piaget caliber 430P, and adds a large date window at 12 o'clock and 40-hour power reserve indication at 6 o'clock.
The IWC uses the Calibre 830P, which is hidden behind a nicely engraved case back. The solid case back makes sense, as the Piaget movement has a casing diameter of 26.8 mm and the IWC case is 42.3 mm in diameter. The 2.5 mm thickness of the Piaget movement lets IWC keep the Portuguese thin at 7.3 mm.

A tool watch with a delicate and refine heart. Warmth of the tobacco dial and PG case all jus adds up for me. Makes for a very dressy tool (if there was such a thing) IMO, OP made an excellent choice is placing this very refined mvt in a very classic case...

Piaget is a quiet powerhouse of movement design and artistic know-how. Their prowess in the creation and manufacturing of ultra-thin movements is really second to none. It's no wonder that their movements have powered the watches of many other storied bra...
Thanks George....

I think both watches are a great value, and the IWC can be had for half the price of an Altiplano due to the steel case. it is also so much nicer to wind than the FA Jones movement in the Portuguese Hand Wound. Bill
