Trying out with some resolution tests

Had a chance to try out the the Q2 Monochrom which I took some pictures of kitty in the other post that I have shared. I am familiar with the older Leica Q and how really good the 28 Summilux really is having rely on it as a do it all travel kit back during the distant past where travel was still possible.

Wanted to see how the same 28 Summilux lens will stack against an increased sensor of 47M as well as a monochrome sensor that just read pure levels of light minus the color array. Based on Leica's literature the removal of the color array gives additional noise control in terms of ISO as well as improved resolution. While I haven't really done thorough detailed comparison vis a vis a black and white conversion with a normal color Leica Q2 and compared that with the Leica Q2 monochrom, my initial views albeit very unscientific of random shots on my cats does gives a level of monochrome pop over what I can get from a conventional black and white conversion. Also the ISO performance on the Q2 monochrom is indeed very very good all the way to ISO6400 with very clean and tightly controlled grain.

Anyways, on a dreary rainy weekend afternoon decided to do a resolution test on how the Summilux 28 on the Leica Q2 monochrom will perform. The following pics show a full frame image of the Singapore CBD area shot across Marina Bay Sands as well as 200% crops of the center as well as left and right portions of the image as depicted in the red rectangles. I am actually very impressed on the details that the Summilux lens of the Q2 monochrom can resolve especially on the dreary day lighting which probably isn't the best ideal conditions to conduct such testing. Picture was shot at ISO200, F8, 1/125 with some Photoshop levels to bring up the exposure but no sharpening done at all.

Impressive resolution...

With this photo, I would like to see some example comparisons of gamma and mid-tone slider adjustments. I think you might be able to get even more out of his camera / lens combination. My experience with the "ISO-less" leanings of the Fujifilm x100t have ...

Agreed.

Think that the files from the monochrom ldo allow for quite a fair bit of latitude to push/pull out details from the image.

I believe that the macro

Function from the Q2 is quite capable as well. Will try to do some tests on that and share my findings

Yes, please, do so!

That‘s quite some quality indeed. I always was amazed by the monochrome Leicas. The Q2 seems to set a new standard. Though I still use my Fuji X pro2 ;-))

Yes they are indeed impressive

I have the Fuji XT series as well and while the ACROS mode of the Fuji are very good the images from the Q2 monochrom in post processing will have an edge over those from my Fuji
