Some birds again

After the last few posts with birds in flight, now some photos of small birds.

It’s almost impossible to catch them in flight unless you really prepare well, find the optimum location and be very very very patient but shoot many many pictures.

It’s a bit easier to catch them sitting on a branch or something like that. But most of them are shy anyway plus now in summer time the trees and bushes have full leaves. Those leaves make an excellent hiding place for these small birds.

Some photographers “build” fake twigs into a bush or tree in such a way that they can easily photograph a bird if it’s in that fake twig. Some even put out a feeding station to lure the birds towards their position.

For me that’s all too much. I like shooting birds but only in their natural habitat and without disturbing them. Nor do I go out and sit there for hours hoping the bird flies by.

I’m the opposite, I like to sit outside on the terrace with a coffee and camera next to me in my own garden. Birds activity is usually high and sometimes there is no photo opportunity. And sometimes I’m lucky when a bird lands on a twig that somehow allows for a great photo.

Attached an example where I wasn’t sitting on the terrace but on the large balcony near the bedroom. Sat there with a coffee when an ordinary house sparrow landed and sat on a twig right in front of me.

The second series was few days later

When I shot the first one I didn’t notice it, only when I downloaded the photos to my pc did I notice that a little beetle was flying by and it was captured in the photo. Coincidence but it gives the photo something natural.

Hope you’ll like them

Of the “pop” of red, there is a real vibrancy there. In re shy/timid birds, I noticed birds are typically very wary of humans who are approaching them. I have never quite really formed a method of getting any type of birds to feel comfortable as I come ne...

Thank you my dear friend.

I’m so glad you picked up on that touch of red. In post editing I cropped it in such a way that the red stayed within the frame. As, like you, I felt it gives some extra vibrance Compare a woman with bright red shoes (hmmm haha knowing you I’m sure you kn...

And by the way, it’s in hindsight not as difficult as it may seem. I started in March when lockdown occurred. Before that time I have never ever made a picture of a bird. And was silently laughing about the guys who spent days trying to capture one partic...

Oh wow, let me start saving, and then I’ll go

the latter because of the reflection in the eye... I am reminded of that old proverb has something to do about standing on the side of the hill, a roast duck, and an open mouth . I go as far as swans floating on the lake ; ) Casey

Ha that’s Confucius

The proverb is very much appreciated although must admit I had to look it up. I found that it’s from Confucius “A man who stands on the side of a hill with his mouth open will wait a long time before the roast duck drop in” The 1st photo is one I like as ...

I had never seen a bird with his eyes closed and was surprised. He wasn’t sleeping but apparently they scratch their beak on a twig to clean it (or maybe he just had an itch haha) But i agree it’s gives something special or at least rare to the photo
