First you must wait for the deep late night so in summer no need to move before 23:00 at the earliest, then drive as far as you can for avoiding city light pollution (unless you have the new Kenko filter Casey is mentioning), then when you have finally found the right spot, the fun starts. You can finally install your setup tripod camera lens remote control... and start testing. Then you realize focusing is a huge challenge as you have little idea about the proper focus (nope often infinite is not necessarily the best !)... When you believe everything is ok and want to pull the trigger a car comes from far away in your direction and you have to wait another long 5 minutes before you can shoot. When you finally do it and check the first result is usually far from your expectations so you make a first break to think what and how you should adjust and there you go. You only took a few pics, the majority crap and watch the time (on your iphone because watch in the night is helpless π) and realize it is already 2:30 AM ! You now start to know better what to do so you shoot for another hour and then decide to pack and go back. By the time you reach home after the (long) way back it is almost 4 AM when you are in your bed π. But it is an experience, it is fun and rewarding... when the outcome comes ok for at least a few pics. It is worth the try believe me at least as a personal challenge. Looking forward to your pics my friend π

Col de l'Espigoulier to be precise, same place where I already shot few night pics last year Hope you will like these shots. It's not that easy, actually there is a big proportions that goes straight to the bin and only few where the result is ok. But aft...

My pick is the first photo (the one beacon of light is a nice touch), but I also like the impact of the second... will this be an annual event?... hope so. What were the shot details on that first photo... camera, lens, exposure? Improving year on year is...
Thank you for your kind words Casey

I was not aware of this Kenko Astro LPR Type 2 and it seems available in different diameters. As you said it is far to be cheap for a filter that you use occasionally only but if I had a chance to try it one day I could be tempted. Of course the city ligh...
Merci Mike !

Thank God the proportion is not to that extent ! I am certainly not patient enough to have to choose one out of 1 million ! I would have renounced since ages ! OMG

To tell you the truth, the idea of doing astro-photography came to me last year when we visited DB manufacture at the occasion of the Grand Independants Tour and GTG in June. Iβll send the pics to Denis Flageollet and tell him that he inspired me
Great stuff Mike!

Itβs really fun even if it is indeed challenging and the result is quite rewarding at the end. I was obviously more comfortable for watch macro photo or portrait and landscape but itβs cool to discover new things. Your skills for street photo are well kno...
