Echi... that quote is the epigraph from

"Hue 1968: A Turning Point of the American War in Vietnam" by Mark Bowden (2017).

I ordered the e-book as soon as it was available, and just finished reading it for the second time.  "Once Upon a Distant War" by William Prochnau (1995) and "A Bright and Shinning Lie" by Neil Sheehan (1988) are two of the better books that focus on the big picture...  Bowden's book is the view from the trenches... both trenches.

In an unexpected way the quote refers back to a different time... "Hell in a Very Small Place: The Siege of Dien Bien Phu" (1966) and "Street Without Joy" (1961) both by Bernard B. Fall.

Hard to believe that the Tet Offensive was over 50 years ago... it seems like yesterday.

Ah, the Tet Offensive. I think I remember sharing with you that story of an old buddy of mine back in my programming days (yes, folks, COBOL) who used to be a map reader identifying where "charlie" was from aerial photos. He was there during the Tet Offen...

When I talked to the rep from Pilot he said the "H-2105 Vanishing Point Drafting / Drawing Mechanical Pencil" was too complicated to build and they couldn't justify the mfg process at a competitive price... Google it... I found one NOS for sale listed at ...
