Arvo Pärt is a major composer, imo.

I suggest you listen to the whole album on ECM with Tabula rasa (Silentium is the second movement), Fratres and Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten (with Gidon Kremer and Dennis Russell Davies as main interpreters).

I also think his 4th symphony, as played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic directed by Esa-Pekka Salonen is a major work.

And one last favorite of mine is Lamentate, in the interpretation of Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies.

If you like these works, you might also want to check the music of Pēteris Vasks (latvian composer) and Henryk Górecki (polish composer).

Best,
Emmanuel
