I was watching some tutorials over the holidays and the guy was talking about the difference between post processing color vs. B&W where (IHO) B&W needed a bit more contrast and/or gray tone separation while the individual colors provided that separation when using color photos... and then the individual (changing) preference.
With this year's New Year photos at Meiji Shrine (which I do every 1-Jan) I noticed some changes in my composition and image selection. One advantage of reshooting a location is you notice changes that slip in over time. Maybe due to the learning curve effect from repeated experiences, maybe an actual shift in preference.
Regarding "I seem to like my pics a bit lighter and perhaps less brooding. It almost borders on lacking in contrast in most cases." Could be in part using different techniques in B&W conversions (for example)... the contrast slider vs. more separation between the colors when converted to gray.... "well, it falls under that category for color as well"... so true... and stepping back is good
.
"I think we ended the year right… you with Hokkaido and me with Currimao"... maybe this year we might find ourselves in the same location for a shoot... later in the year as spring looks to be quite busy here, including my bi-annual (every two years) trip to New Mexico
Good that you had some time away with your daughter over the holidays...
Have a good start to the New Year...
