I just arrived in Patekland (some call in Switserland also
) , I open my mail and what do I see ??? ...
so ... the 5980, I agree with most of what Park wrote about it. Myself like Bruno said had about the same collection as you had, AP ROO, Seadweller DS, and numerous Panerais (still have a few them
) and then came the Patek totally unexpected to tell you the truth as i never had considered this watch before. My biggest problem with the 5980 was the size, I was so used the last 9 years wearing big watches (44-47mm) that anything smaller i tried before (Rolex sub and gmt) didn't last longer than mostly a few weeks before i sold them again. So what's so special about the 5980 ... the finishing first of all is absolutely superb, you mostly can see this in the details of the case and how well all this is made. Another 'plus' was the amazing versatility of this piece you can litteraly wear it on all occasion IMO, it's elegant but also sporty, the size is not to be compared with Panerais etc... but this watch is perfect as it is, making it bigger would only be a bad move and is in no way necessary. At last there's the attraction of the nice dial, i have the blue one that fades to black on the edges and depending how the ligth falls into it , it has an amazingly beautifull look. Much more preferred by me than the newer slate/black version. And then there is ... I won't deny it the idea of having a Patek on your wrist, even distingueshid as it is it gives you a special feeling that is hard to describe
hope this helps ....
