I found it surprising that Patek Philippe used a 240 movement to drive so many watches too. And yet, I still applaud them for utilizing a layered construction (vs. an integrated construction) and yet still being able to achieve extremely thin watches.
I do think the movement finishing on a perpetual calendar should be even better than the normal 240 calibers. Since the perpetual calendar and the celestial are part of Patek Philippe's "Grand Complications" line of watches that go through double assembly. But after looking at lesser 240 calibers since W220's original post, I must say that the difference between a 6000G and a 5102 movement finishing is very small.
