I've been reading posts here for a while and decided to just jump in with both feet.
I've decided to go on a hunting trip. A vintage Patek hunting trip. I'm anxious to learn as much as I can before putting my money down and so I come to you for advice. To start my journey off I've just ordered the Huber & Banbery Wristwatch book and I expect to receive it in a few weeks. I'll be monitoring Antiquorum as well as a resource. I'm particularly interested in acquiring a 1950-1960 Calatrava. Unfortunately the 2526 is way out of my price range but I'm sure there's a watch out there just for me. The Calatrava I hope to find will be used for occasional office and evening use. A date function is not wanted and I prefer small seconds-hand movements
As far as dials, cases and hands go, of course it's always a matter of personal taste.
I think my first step is to decide between manual wind or auto wind. I know the 27-460 is considered by many as the pinnacle of PP's auto winders of the '50-'60s era but perhaps there are other auto calibres also worth looking into. When it comes to manual wind calibres I'm even more ignorant and don't even know where to begin.
I'm not buying for an investment, only to satisfy my soul. I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions anyone can provide as I begin this interesting trip. Recommendations for a specific calibre, reference, dial or whatever would be useful.
Also, if you know of reputable internet dealers or retail dealers in the New York city area I would appreciate a PM.
Thank you for your time and any help you can offer...Jeffrey
