This one is WAY up on my list...

...it's always been 'the one that got away.' About 25 years ago I saw this exact watch in a shop near Carmel, CA...I believe it was pre-owned. Compared to today it was a fraction of the price but I was young and poor with two small kids. There's no way it was in the budget. I could probably make a good argument to get it now at 3x the price. Would feel like an idiot but it might be the one 'reasonably' priced watch that I would buy and never replace with another. Big congratulations.

My dream watch

I was finally able to pull the trigger on it! I know that for today standards, it's not that popular, but I love the pc and the retrograde complication. I think that proportions of the dial are just perfect (differently from its successor 5496). I'm happy...

I love the dial

Great symmetry and everything so logically arranged and legible.

This one is WAY up on my list...

1994

The first time I fell in love with 5050 was 1994 (I still have a book mentioning it) and, curiously, this watch, according to the certificate of origin, was sold in 1994 by Gubelin. Nice coincidence. Nominal price in 1994 was quite similar to today's... T...

Not an expert on pricing...

...but I would think the price now (pre-owned) would be the same as the price then (new). Is that what you mean? β€˜94 sounds about right. I had a 4-year-old and a newborn, hence no funds for this watch. The one I saw was pre-owned and I believe it was just...

Price in mid 90s...

I have been on the fence about one of these guys for a long time. Finally, after about 3 years of deliberation, I went for a 3970.Certainly it’s a totally different format. The big deciding factor for me was the placement of the day and month on the 3970....

It is these type of so called 'not popular' watches

that I adore the most!! I actually saw a brand new one selling at a UK AD last month (Patek does that sometimes) at an exorbitant price but with Breguet numerals. Your ref. is a great size and the movement fills up the case back much better than the 5059 ...

Breguet

The Breguet dial 5050s are just spectacular, recently produced in limited edition. I saw the one you mention, but budget definitely out of range

Ah, a limited edition?

 By: sham1 : June 21st, 2018-23:31
Do you know how many in the limited edition? Yes, very, very pricey but hey, a Patek limited edition is never too expensive at RRP!!

AFAIK

In 2010-2012 Patek decided to use some spare cases of the discontinued 5050 (it was discontinued some 10 years before) and fit them with Breguet dial. I think it was an extremely small batch, I don't exactly know the number, I think 30, for their best cus...

30 is pretty limited by Patek standards.

Thank you for the information. I will now plan a bank robbery!!

What a wonderful picture...

... shows the 3-d quality of the dial very nicely. To me the 5050 is one of the most relevant watches of the last 30 years.
