Breaking news - 5970P sold!
This unique piece was successfully auctioned last night for a staggering HK$ 7 million (~ 700k Euros). The auction was hosted by Sotheby and full proceeds were donated to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, a charitable organization in Hong Kong.
What a great result!
......and to a most worthy cause. Good to see the generosity of HK people have not diminished even in the current economic environment. I had, at one point thought of putting in a bid but it would have been way off the mark! LOL

Yap. The result took me by surprise. PP will soon launch the model at (my guess only) less than 20% of the auctioned price. Better hold our breathes unless we are very keen about the charity. Cheers, Sam

Patek is launching the model in 3 weeks time? Maybe it's not going to be a Blue Dial. Any idea? *CL

Actually there is nothing special apart from the engraving of "TWGH 2008" at the back of the case. Other than that, everything is the same as the regular 5970P models.
Actually ...
... as I was told, the blue dial will be unique to this piece; the production dial will be a different color. However, I noticed during the dinner that they didn't make mention of that. We'll find out soon enough!
I did have a paddle ...
... but the bids went beyond anything I had anticipated before I could even reach it! The whole process took less than 10 minutes. We probably reached the 5 million mark in about 3 minutes.
