Patek service centre told me...

I had my 5296 with the 324 calibre in for some warranty work a while ago. The service watchmaker told me it's due to the zirconium bearings in the rotor which replaced the traditional steel bearings in the previous calibre.

I used to hate the sound as I've never heard it in any of my other automatics but now I really like it. As a previous poster said - it gives character and makes the watch seem alive.

FYI I can hear the sound when I am driving sometimes, especially when you turn the steering. It is perfectly normal

of bearing for the rotor to give longevity , i noticed it changed on the 324 calibre compared with the 315 calibre on previous aquanauts I've owned and now also with the my current nautilus.Personally i like the noise , gives it a character. regards darma
