5980 rotor noise

hello gentlemen,

i do not post here, but i have certainly learned a great deal about patek from you guys over the years.
if you could please indulge me, i would appreciate it....

i do not own any nautilus models, so this may be a silly question.
while viewing a 5980 in a watch store, i noticed a rather audible noise
when the rotor was turning to charge the watch,
like a buzzing sound.
is this common to other examples of the 5980 and the movement used in the nautilus line?

FYI I can hear the sound when I am driving sometimes, especially when you turn the steering. It is perfectly normal

of bearing for the rotor to give longevity , i noticed it changed on the 324 calibre compared with the 315 calibre on previous aquanauts I've owned and now also with the my current nautilus.Personally i like the noise , gives it a character. regards darma

It's common in both the nautilus line as well as many royal oaks. Good luck and great choice.

I noticed the same thing with my 5980 and came here to ask if it was normal. Everyone assured me it was and I haven't had any issues with it. Enjoy your new watch.

I had my 5296 with the 324 calibre in for some warranty work a while ago. The service watchmaker told me it's due to the zirconium bearings in the rotor which replaced the traditional steel bearings in the previous calibre. I used to hate the sound as I'v...

for full disclosure, i do not own this watch- i was only viewing it in a store. upon handling it in person, i am still undecided as to my next wristwatch. thank you for the responses, sirs. best regards, mike
