Patek Philippe 2583J
A rare one it seems as I believe less than a few hundred in any metal of this reference were produced in the mid to late 50s. The likes of the 2526 actually made in larger numbers, around 2000.
Only a few 2583 seem to have turned up at auction these last 30-40 years so anyone has further information on the reference would be great to hear more!
The watch wears so well and surprisingly large. A jumbo for its time at 36mm, the lugs are pointed and tapered a bit reminiscent of the 3448 or 5235. The domed design of the case sits so nicely on the wrist. I love the raised profile of it and the style you sadly just don’t find on new pieces I feel.
The movement is very accurate as you’d expect with probably the best automatic movement ever made and the first gyromax patented movement still used today. I think only 7 or 8 references were made using the 12-600at from 1952 to 1959 and back then only a few hundred of any reference each year with much lower production numbers than today. The finishing on the rotor is something to behold.
The star of the show is the 12-600 movement of course but it’s hard to stop staring at the case profile the angled lugs and of course that stunning old PP crown.
