Patek 5522A; opinions please
Hi everyone;
Just wanted to get an opinion as to how many forum members would take this watch, if one is offered to them; I am personally very ambivalent about it and offer the following argument;
PROS;
Limited edition steel calatrava
Simple time only piece
Very sporty looking
Potential future collectible
CONS;
Very limited allocation for US only
Small movement in a large case
Price point of 21k appears to be very high for such a watch, IMO
May not be everybody's cup of tea
My preference would have been a simple steel watch perhaps along the lines of ref 565. I find this one too sporty and very large size for my taste.
I
have been told that the watch will be allocated among about 85 ADs in the US; this comes out to be about 7 pieces per AD if equally divided; couple of dealers I enquired from seemed very reluctant to make any commitments; expected availability is around September 2017.
I personally would pass if I am offered one; however, it seems to be generating a lot of buzz in the Patek collecting community here in US.

And I wasn't really impressed. Also I'm picky about straps and looks kind of cheap.
I would get it.
If I have the watch is nice,Steel and simple and a simple modern nautilus in steel with the same caliber is not I am convinced with all the pros but nothing of the cons you the watch sings to you buy it,Don't think if all the people will like it or not...
I would take one
even though I am not into sports watches. It is a relatively budget Patek watch that can be worn in different occasions. It would be in demand even if it was limited to 6,000 pieces! The fact that it is limited to 600 makes the watch far too sought after ...

This piece has its own charm as evident from much of the buzz you mentioned and from what I've read thus far.
Having not seen it in the metal but only from photos, it would be way way down my bucket list... But as the saying goes, "never say never" you wouldn't know if the heart grows fonder after setting your eyes on the actual piece.

I saw the watch in metal and in fact,
I was looking at it in three different occasions. It's a very nice watch but not so special. To my taste a little bit big. However, for me it's useless to speculate. I asked from London Salon and one of the bosses of Patek's head office if I could get one...

Thank you Patek for selling via US AD's. This is not any different during the London show. It didn't help to be an American then. Now it's our turn to get a special piece!

I don't know if US retailers weren't able to have any of the London pieces but anyway, it was maybe more difficult than a European client. Are you planning to try to get one of the models presented in NYC? Best, Mark

AD allocation hierarchy based on those invited to the NY show. When in the London show, one can really feel the difference shown to visitors, even at the Patek boutique during the days of the exhibition, when inquiring about the event pieces. Now, it's ou...
