I was close to buying 5296-001G once but opted for VC Patrimony boutique piece instead as my heart went for VC instead.

Much will depend upon your pocket book + how you plan to wear the watch. However, assuming you want to stay in the 5-figure area, both a 5712/1A or 5167/1A are excellent models that look great and can be worn in nearly any setting, IMO.

I would start with...
an annual calendar or with a WorldTimer. I think the Calatrava or gondolo are too "simple" to enter the Patek world. A complicated watch is more interesting. Fr.Xavier
