Moonphase and Legibility
I am so pleased to read all he positive words on this watch. It is a joy.
So, firstly, the moonphase is independently set, and simply requires you to know how many days after a Full Moon or a New Moon you are, and you push the setting push piece once for each day (after having set the moon to either full, or 'absent' for New) - really simple, but I find that I just tend to wind the watch after an interlude, rather than reset everything. Occasionally I decide I will reset everything, but this is spontaneous and only when I am in the mood to do so.
Legibility is better in low light than bright light (in my experience) but is good in any case.

It always cracks me up
It always cracks me up when ever I see a watch with a moon phase that is not set correctly. Over the years of veiwing these pictures it is very common for this to occur; I would say maybe 75% of the time. Is it really that difficult to set the moon; they ...
No the moon phase is incorrect....
I've just checked and assuming the pic was taken this year the full moon in May is the 17th so this watch on the 8th should be approaching the full moon while in the pic it has just passed a full moon. Never noticed this in pics before. However what an ab...
That is the problem with moonphase watches...
Even if, on PC, the moonphase has to be synchronized with the perpetual calendar... Can you imagine when it is not linked with a perpetual calendar? Each time the watch is not wound, you have to check what is the exact moonphase, which is a bit fastidious...

I don't know how one would set a PC and whether you could just advance the moonphase without all the other parts coming into play. For Xmas my mum got me a moonphase calendar which is great and makes setting my reverso so much easier...but I have to admit...
AFAIK, you can't set the moonphase independantly to the Perpetual Calendar ...

the pusher which sets the month is coordinated with the leap year indicator,
while the pusher for the moonphase is independent. you can just keep pushing it and the moonphase disc will turn from full moon to none, over and over. I would add that unless the moon is full or zero at the time of setting, it becomes a guess where you s...

The moon phase can be sent independently, as previously mentioned by the use of the pushers. At least I could do with my 5140. Great photos, but could someone say how they find the legibility of the dial say over the W/G one. The reason for me asking, is ...
Well, I'm more used to PC which you can set by one pusher or by the crown.
But if you have several pushers, it seems lofgical that you can set indepedantly the date and the moonphase. As for the legibility of this 5970P, this is not the thing whioh would worry me the more. I don't find legibilty to be problematic, not ore than a...

Nicholas Would you consider owning both the ALS dato in platinum/black dial and this 5970p? This question foregoes your owning the 5070. Thanks for your opinion. Joe
