Hi, i think it's down to individual taste, some like bigger diameter, some like me likes smaller especially when it comes to traditional chronograph watch like 5170. 5172 is also a very beautiful watch and it comes in slightly bigger case diameter.

Among J,G and R, I find 5170G white dial with pulsemeter the 'best' Have to make sure before I can commit to buying one :p

It looks really great on that strap, both in terms of the contrast with the black dial and in dressing the watch down a little.
Of course you have to! What a perfect size. Patek proportions are, well⦠close to divine. And with that strap I think you've posted a photo of a piece that could be my "only watch!"

I took off the both Patek strap and original folding buckle altogether and replaced with various straps and tang buckles that come with the straps
