Rare platinum Patek Philippe 2552, retailed by Cartier, up for Sotheby's auction, featuring a double-P crown.

“La Maison Platine”

This full platinum example with original bracelet of Patek Philippe's ref. 2552 will be sold by Sotheby's next April 24th.

For whatever reason, they call it “La Maison Platine” (The Platinum House).

What is certain is that platinum 2552s are very rare (only 9 known pieces in total) and this one is even rarer since it has been retailed by Cartier New-York in 1959, as can be seen inside the clasp.

The original double-P crown, was reserved for watches with the automatic calibers 12-600 (which powers this watch) and 27-460.

The 2552 is one of the charming Calatrava models, nicknamed the "Flying Saucer." The J version is lovely, but I didn't know there was a P version. I personally prefer the one without the diamond indices.
