There is actually a buckle that falls between the two designs pictured.
It looks very much like the first one in overall dimensions. It has a "point" like the second one, but the point is extremely subtle (perhaps a 15-degree angle). I don't have a picture of one but you can find a picture of one on a well-known auction site ...
