it's a pain but it's worth it..
I don't wear my 3940 every day and I know it's a pain to reset the date/time correctly, and I don't usually do other than giving it a few winds to start the watch running on the time of the day. The only time I set all of them right is during this month of the year
On the contrary, doing these chores on my Moser Perpetual 1 is a breeeze, on my Patek, well, lets say when I gets much older, I probably have more time doing these stuff

Patek is my only automatic watch, even so, I don't put it on the winder for the same reason others have said here.

you have it all good about the setting of the date. As for the use of the winder, forget it... If you don't use your watch for a while, put in in a pouch, and basta. Like you, your watch needs some rest, and I don't think that letting it run 24 / 24, 365 ...

Hi regarding the first, Nicholas has replied, and it all seems correct. On the second, perhaps 48 hrs a month is more than sufficient to keep the oils well distributed. But if want to, you could build yourself a small "strap extension" using the long side...
