Dear all,
I have 2 questions about my 5159.
- In the instructions they only explain how to set the calendar with the pushers. However, if the watch has stopped for a few days, I assume that the calendar can be advanced with the crown and everything (day, date, moonphase, etc.) will advance synchronously. Right ? I assume, we just have to avoid beginning doing this, as usual, between 6PM and 1AM. Right ?
- I have small wrists and the strap is just too small to put the watch on the winder... :-(. I assume I have no other choice than to change the "strap setting" each time I want to use the winder ?

you have it all good about the setting of the date.
As for the use of the winder, forget it... If you don't use your watch for a while, put in in a pouch, and basta.
Like you, your watch needs some rest, and I don't think that letting it run 24 / 24, 365 / 365 is a good thing for your watch.
But I really don't like winders...

regarding the first, Nicholas has replied, and it all seems correct.
On the second, perhaps 48 hrs a month is more than sufficient to keep the oils well distributed.
But if want to, you could build yourself a small "strap extension" using the long side of an old strap as in the pic.

Many thanks to both of you and for the great drawings. Unfortunately, it has a deployant buckle...
Do you have an Orbita winder?
These winders come with a foam style which is squeezable so you can pinch it and slide your closed deployant around it. Also be sure to ask Orbita for their lock down holder. It has an Allen screw so you lock it down and there is no chance of spin off. This feature is not standard but customer service will provide it a no charge
I damaged a watch on my first time when the fixture came off. I have since severely limited the use of winders to annual or perpetual watches but I am now even thinking of just manually winding those and manually advancing the watches every couple of days so as to reduce the wear on the watches. I really hate to send my watches off to the spa. I miss them too much!!

Foam holder
I have an Orbita with the foam piece which contracts or expands to hold most watches. I would be suprised if this doesn't work. can't you also use a different hole in the strap for the winder?

it's a pain but it's worth it..
I don't wear my 3940 every day and I know it's a pain to reset the date/time correctly, and I don't usually do other than giving it a few winds to start the watch running on the time of the day. The only time I set all of them right is during this month of the year
On the contrary, doing these chores on my Moser Perpetual 1 is a breeeze, on my Patek, well, lets say when I gets much older, I probably have more time doing these stuff Patek is my only automatic watch, even so, I don't put it on the winder for the same reason others have said here.
