First and second series 3940’s had the sigma Swiss mark sitting just below the minute dots (but the dots were not continuous) and the third series 3940’s had them “in-line” with the minute dots. I’ve seen many 3940’s in all metals and all production years….I have not seen this where the minute dots were continuous. Hmmnnnn…..

My understanding of this was the demarcation of the APRIOR initiative
Couple of brands during the quartz crisis came together and it was intentionally used to quickly mark when gold parts were used in a watch. Quite realistically it was just a marketing tactic that didn’t gain much traction.
I have not noticed or seen those marker dots before.
