Inspired by Gordon Lau’s post comparing 5131 dials, I thought a comparison of 5131J and 5231J might be interesting. Which do you prefer?

While both have basically the same map, the differences between the 2 references are quite stark. Even the maps, in terms of color and detail are quite different.
Different fonts, different size case (5131 at 39.5 is a mm larger), different style minute hands, 5231 has faceted lugs and no crown guard, 5131 case has more rounded surfaces than sharp edges and of course “Patek Philippe” is on the dial on 5231 (not on the bezel).
Perhaps most important is a comparison of the maps.
5131 has a simpler, less detailed and less colorful map (at least this 5131). 5231 has a very colorful, more detailed and sophisticated map. Some might argue 5231 has a much higher quality map.
So which do I prefer? I prefer the 5231 font, Patek on dial, case style and most importantly the map.
However, I prefer the size and proportions of 5131. The map while not as detailed is very open and seems less busy. Since the map is small this has a positive effect. I like that we might never see another watch with Patek Philippe on the bezel.
All things considered, if I had to choose one and only one, 5231J would be my choice, but by a closer margin than my initial reaction.
Which do you prefer and why?
