So I was actually initially quite taken by the look of the new two-tone model (ok, purists, you can shoot me now!). There’s something a bit formal about the straight sides that appeals to my baroque side.
[as for the others: Green ain’t my colour, and the green dial with the less-mellifluous case design, compared to the Nautilus in the same green, feels lacking in poetry; while the platinum complicated model is, to my eyes, a bit of a mess.]
But now having seen the size of the thing compared to other watches (there are photos out there with it next to a 15202, and a 5711), at least this initial model feels like a ROO counterpart, positioned for the thrusting younger gym-bound banker market, the latter-day Patrick Bateman masters of the universe, supremely self-confident. And reading the interview I have a feeling that fits its maker as well. So it seems the personality of the watch does not suit me, and I’ll continue pining after a more refined, smaller 5811 for the sentimental crowd…it’s just such a shame Vacheron discontinued the Overseas Ultra Thin with the legendary 1120 inside.
Now, do a SS or WG Nautilus ultra-thin, a bit smaller than a 5811 with a 240 inside… or a Cubitus with a 215… just with two hands, no date… hey, a guy can dream, right?
(Challenge: who’s making the closest to the thing I’m dreaming of???)
Best
