Patek Philippe

I try to summarize my thoughts and feelings.

Dear waitlisted,

thank you for your statement, which I am quite sure is with the best of intentions.

I also immediately believe that you and HODINKEE have done everything with the best of intentions.

No one who does not have the appropriate insider knowledge can claim otherwise.

But what consumers and watch lovers can judge from the outside is if the entire story is consistent or contains factual contradictions.

Yes, you are right, dealing with watches is anachronistic and illogical per se because it’s so highly emotional, but this is about a PR story built with a lot of effort and obviously a masterplan behind, that was presented to us.

And the whole thing against the background of an artificially built hype, where in the end a person that seems working for the auction house, and who, as I understand it, also was a bidder, suddenly gets the chance.

And a well-known watchmaker, who is said not to be involved and has no say gets involved and decides who gets the good piece.

Well, I think we've already paid way too much attention to the whole matter. And this whole campaign doesn't come across to me as sympathetic and honest. This is my personal feeling.

The only good thing: the money for this marketing action goes to a good cause.

And there is a great recipe (my personal recipe):

Just walk away from all this nonsense and move on to something else. There are still so many beautiful watches out there. Outside of this artificial hype, where inner value and outer value still correlate well.

For me, watches have acquired a certain importance in my life (although - I know! - they are ultimately just "things").

So when I wear something on my body all the time (which is an intimate feeling) it is all the more important for me that I can identify with it based on the values I live by.

All the best

Thomas
