Patek Philippe

I nearly bought one from "my" AD

but I backed up on the last minute. I used the funds to buy some other pieces.
Why: I must say that 5711P is a wonderful watch and has really massive "wrist presence". The dial is also stunning - I like it much more than the one of 5711/1A. However, for me Nautilus is a sporting watch and platinum is not really the right material for that.
It always bring into my mind a story my father told:
After WWII, Finland had to pay war compensations to Soviet Union. Sure, a nation of 3.2 million attacked a nation of 240 million. But that's another story. Anyhow, the Finnish yards needed to built a big commercial fleet for the Soviets - a huge amount of world's best merchant ships. The Soviets wanted to get two saunas to each of the vessels - one for Captain and one for the rest of the crew.
When the first of the vessels were under the final inspection before the delivery, the Soviets started to scream! They said that the seat in the sauna were made of cheap material - wood containing no tar. The Russians demanded "at least" copper sets!
Finns accepted with pleasure and we are still giggling how the Russians burned their asses.
The moral of the story is that copper is more noble than wood but for sure not in the sauna. Same applies with platinum; for me it's the ultimate material but not for a sporting watch.
Just imagine the first Soviet who sat to the copper plates when the temperature in the sauna was designed to be around 100 degrees. That memes me happy even everything happened 70 years ago.
Best, Kari
