I like the 5004 the best because to many chronos: 1518,2499,3970,5020,5970
The 5004 is unique. The simple chrono perpetual calendar has been produced in so many models, ie: 1518, 2499, 3970 (lots of), 5020, 5970 To me it seems that Patek Philippe has produced a huge amount of Perpetual Calendars like the 3940's and Perpetual Calandar Chronographs such as the models I mentioned, not to mention the 3990, 5971, and 3971. About 20 years ago Patek upped the cost of the 3970 one year substantially due to the high prices the 2499 was getting at auctions.
Please tell me if I am correct in saying that the 5004 is much much much more difficult to make than the 3970 or 5970 or 5020 ect ect? Patek only produced 3 Perpetual Split Second Calendar Watches before the 5004. It seems to me that the simple chronograph and perpetual calendar is much easier for patek to produce, and the 3940 is extremely easy for Patek to produce.
I would think the marketplace for the 3970, 5970, and to a lesser extent 5020 would be a bit shakey, especially when you also compete with the 1518 and the 2499, and of course the 3990 and the 5971 and the 3971. To me it seems that patek has produced loads of simple chronographs, perpetual calendar chronographs and perpetual calendars, and a whole lot less split second chronographs. Any experts here who can give me some wisdom on my comments?
