Hi All, This post explains why, if I had to choose, I would prefer the enamel map of 5131G over the 5131R.

Other than the geographical depiction on the map, I like an enamel dial that strikes a balance of 1) as many colors as possible, 2) bright colors where appropriate to make the dial attractive, and 3) smooth color gradations, and 4) more difficult enamel skills needed.
Both the G and R maps contain lovely colors (with G containing more colors), but the G has better color gradations which is important to me because IMO better skills are required. With less gradations, R therefore has more color contrasts.
Overall, whether G or R, it comes down to personal taste of whether color gradations vs contrasts being one’s preference.
By the way, having met Anita Porchet in person in Singapore during the Grand Exhibition, the master told me that she and her team were responsible for the G and P. www.watchprosite.com

Not sure I follow the differentiation you are making since there are such drastic differences between the dials R to R and G to G due to the process. I would say the G in your photos seems to have a lot of air bubbles in the enamel which is unusual? Not s...
Hi Russell, IMO they are big differences in terms of gradations :-)
I asked Patek about the bubbles and Geneva confirmed that they are within the tolerence of quality control.
Well Gordon, we will have to agree to disagree.
I don't see the anything in the many photos I have seen that suggests there are smoother transitions in the G compared to the R except to agree that some R's have a hard brown area at about 10 - others do not. I will dig out some high res photos.

Dear Gordon, I agree that G has more variation of colours and the transition between colours is more gradual, therefore looks more sophisticated.
On the other hand, R has more vivid and high contrast colours, especially the initial version like Russell's one. However, the colours transition of R is more abrupt. Personally I like G a bit more than R, as the grass next door is usually greener.

Thanks Gordon for the nice comparisons...I'm also not sure whether this difference in gradation depends on the reference or the models considered, but both are obviously fascinating pieces.
My slight preference is for the R though, mainly because of the case color (as I already have the P in white). Thanks for some great pics! ;-)

All WTs are of course great pieces, but I would't mind another "special" rare handcraft at the moment... let's see what the future brings at retail! ;-)
Amazing photo's. Very educational regarding the difference is enamelling choices between the G and R. You definitely must know what you are looking for to spot it.
Also interesting that there are different teams that work on the G+P than R+J.

Hi Next, Anita and her team is responsible for G and P perhaps with another team
The original J makers were a mother and son team, and perhaps they also made Rs
