Here are my choices!

Aug 06, 2009,02:17 AM

Hi,

I've already said that I'm in love with the 5970P!

Then I've long loved the 5970R as it was the beginner, but it is IMVHO true that the 5970J is really superb and the colour of the case goes perfectly well with the style of the case. I could add that I've long looked after pink gold watches (for more than 20 years) but now that there are so many of them I find the yellow gold somewhat less fashionable and more esteemable in some cases (like for vintage watches, for this 5970J or for the Breguet Tradition for instance)!

So for second place J and R would be equal!

But I have no wristshot!

The 5970G would be my last choice! Strangely I've never been really appealed by this version but I've seen it only once and so fastly.... that I can always be caught back!

Cheers

Dje

But lets say just for the moment you were advised that the ratio of the 5970 J was 1 to 3 compared to the 5970 G,R,P. Would that in any way impact you decision. If not, why?

it will make no diff to me.....

be it 1-3 or 1-10. It is still a 5970 but in different color. But it makes a different to me when you compare 5970 to 3970 or 2499 to 5970, hope that make sense to you. Overall, 5970s were not made for a long time or in great quantities. *CL

Yes,

that might reinforce my decision if the YG was already my favorite metal. No bad choices in regard to 5970--best overall watch of any IMHO.

The watch should signify what you like...

I am a person who likes yellow gold and would thus see no problem in acquiring a 5970 in yellow gold. In fact, I really like this watch in the yellow gold with cream dial version on a brown alligator strap. To me, this is the watch to go to a polo-field w...

Dial color

Does the yellow gold version have different colored dials? The only one I've seen is a silver opaline which is gorgeous in yellow gold but not cream colored.

My mistake, it is silver colored. [nt]

As a collector....

 By: jonrus : August 5th, 2009-17:15
I think that supply and demand does make something more collectable than another. Therefore, as long as I like it, and it's rare, I'd go for it. On the other hand, if I don't like it, why would I? In this case, since it's a 5970... I'd go for it. Time wil...

each is special

This really is one of the best all-round Patek's, period. So many reasons. The larger case size, the hips of the case, the square chrono pushers.. the classic dial, the way the lugs join the case. -- The RG is warm and looks great with a tan. The J rhymes...

wow! all 4 5970!

I'm impressed! Just for the sake of discussion, assuming you have to sell these last 4 watches one at a time... which will you sell first, 2nd, and last?

Thanks for all the responses, I realize aquiring a 5970 in any metal

 By: Aussie : August 6th, 2009-07:06
is an accomplishment in its own right. But to aquire all four metals, you are on top of your game. WOW

hard to say..

By: nothing but time : August 6th, 2009-13:23
..but it would probably be J first and G last. I actually have 5 (2 in G) one is for me and the other is boxed for my son on his 21st bday. I'll post a pic of the foursome on my return from summer vacation at the end of month, if nobody else does first.

It wouldn't matter to me.

Just owning a 5970 in any metal would be great and because I'll be passing all of my watches down to my sons and nephews, and not reselling them, it wouldn't matter if it was 1-3, 1-10, etc. If I want it, and can afford it, I'll purchase it based on what ...

As I'm not a colored gold guy, the choice is simpler

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2009-23:24
G or P... Then, it doesn't matter a lot... The G is very elegant, and discrete with its silver dial, while the P has more strength, maybe, with its black dial? I won't complain if someone gifts me one of these 2! Best, Nicolas

5970 j

 By: ds : August 6th, 2009-00:58
i do own a 5970 j and to me i choose it coz i truly think that the yellow gold makes it just what a patek should be im not concernd with the resale value or which is a :better: 5970 or more in demand i have a feeling that with time the 5970 j will be a bi...

But since my PLM is YG, it won't make much sense for me to have another YG. So I will stick to this elegant piece *CL...

My AD called on Wednesday to tell me my 5970P had arrived. Wristshot coming.... needless to say, I am a platinum guy but wouldn't kick any of the other metals out of bed. Have to agree with some of teh previous comments....5970 is one of the finest PP
