Help! Trying to buy a Calatrava for Husband- wedding anniversary
Hi! Our 25th is coming up. My husband has talked about owning a Patek Phillip Calatrava for as long as I can remember. We looked at them in person only once at a jeweler in St. Thomas. It was have been around 2005. The watch he loved had a hobnail bezel in rose gold with black alligator strap. I believe the "inner workings" could be seen from the back of the case. In looking at various sites, it looks like it might have been a 3919 or a 5119. Frankly, I have no idea what I'm talking about. Just trying to figure out what to buy. And- new vs pre-owned. Looks to me like the new version is much less formal. Any direction from those of you who know??? And, if you have a sense of pricing that is fair, that would be great too! thanks so much. Cindy

Make sure that your are buying a complete set. That is, the watch, the original box and certificate of origin papers and instruction booklet with leather folder. Anything missing will require the seller to discount the price as having a full set is always...

If it were me, I would definitely buy from an authorized dealer. There are many advantages as mentioned above.

My only concern about the 6119, is that it looks a little less formal/dressy. and it looks a little less thin. though that could just be how I'm seeing it online. My husband loves the thin profile. Please let me know if I am wrong?? thank you

UPDATE: The Final Two!
With tremendous help from this group, in particular one member who has kindly tolerated my many questions and has helped in my search, I am down to the final two.
I'm sincerely glad we were able to help Madam, and as I understand it, the search is now down to two watches (both Calatravas 5119R). I just eliminated the links to secondary dealers which we don't allow here, and replaced it with the basic information.
Of course, the market values, which we also refrain from discussing, are different according to the age of the model. Whichever your final decision, I wish you again the best of luck! ;-)
