the certficate will not be released if the case is not the one in which that movement came out of Patek.
If they released a certificate, it means that all is as expected. I had to return to seller a wonderful 3445 with a great
27-460 whose serial di not match the case. Patek refused ro release certificate.
If a watch has been recased by Patek at a later stage (repair, overhaul etc) it will be annotated so and certificate released
accordingly. I have seen in some occasions that the case will be engraved with two serial numbers (to mark the case that it replaces as well).

I had an extract done for a cushion shape minute
repeater we had several years ago and the watch was made in 1933 (can't remember the exact year) and was sold in 1945. So there are quite a few references that took quite a bit of time to sell. I don't know if the extract could or would identify re-casing...
