Patek Philippe

Familiar story :-)

When I chose my first PP these two were my exact same options. After a not so long search (both pieces were almost available in stock at any AD back then) I tried them both on and I had to choose the one. With my love for complicated horology I pulled the trigger on the 5170g. To me it was just in a different league complication wise. Also note I am an absolute fan of chronographs since I was 12years old and the fact I needed a bit more  of a semi-dressy watch because I did not own one at that time.

Ofcourse there is little comparison in the watches themselves. As one is a (semi)sports watch and the other is rather on the formal side. Don't know what you would prefer.

One thing is for sure, you can't choose wrong! Both are finished to the highest horological standards but choose the one that sings to you most.

Maybe at todays pricepoints I think the 5170 is undervalued complication-wise. But if you prefer a (semi)sports watch the 5712 is a beautiful allrounder.

The choice also depends on the watch collection you already own. If you own for example a Royal Oak already I think the 5170 is a good choice. If you own mostly other leather strap watches I think the bracelet design of the Nautilus could be a true argument to go for.

Very curious what you decide on! Enjoy this moment.

Best,
