A few pictures of the Patek Philippe 5227G Black dial Calatrava
Hi everyone,
I could hold finally the 5227G with black dial lately and thought, in order to help you wait until Thursday, that I could share some pictures and one or two thoughts.

You know that I love the 5227R and think it is a gorgeous modern Calatrava. I can't say the most as the 5127 was a wonderful reference too.
First, this black dial version unveiled in 2015 is a very different offer from the R version. Not just a case color change.
The black lacquer is absolutely beautiful to admire and it is a very pleasing exercize to orient the watch in order to be able to observe all the dial reflections and its perfect finish.
The other consequence of this particular finish is that the dial looks more glossy and, on the contrary to satin finish (like in the 5170G Black dial), it is not casual but very elegant. It would be a perfect companion for dressy diners and going to the Opera.
I find it to be another very appealing classical Calatrava which I would consider with quite specific outfits. But, in such case, it would be the most beautiful since a very long time.
As it arrived in boutiques not long ago and that I imagine that many of you couldn't see it yet, I wanted to bring these first pictures more rapidly.

but in the mean time I would really think we would see a little too much of them and this may not be good as we may get fed up with them. I think it should remain rare (even if seeing a watch with such numerals in the wild will remain very rare anyhow). T...

Black dial really have something special
even if not easy to combine with many straps colors for people who like that. With rose gold or white metal, it definitely brings something very original to the watch. I must say I didn't focus on legibility as it is not a problem for me but I should have...

even if, as I said to Patrick, I would not want to see these numerals used in too many references (even if they won't be seen in the wild anyway because of their rarity). Platinum still to come, we'll see in the future! Cheers, Mark

I like the rose gold Calatravas

Hmmm, I'm not sure but don't think the 5153G's dial is shiny as a lacquered one
it is satin-like but not as glossy as the 5227's. Furthermore, the fact the 5153G has a guilloché pattern in the center limits this effect as well. This being said, they are indeed very similar regarding the kind of event it will accompany you to. Cheers,...
They are very different in style
I went to have a look to the 5153G Black dial maybe 3 years ago and found it very romantic. The thing is that I love the case of the 5227 so much (in my top 3 favorite Patek case from the 3 last decades, which I reviewed here: www.watchprosite.com...

Great watch for all occaisons
in my view. It would look great with jeans on weekends. The black dial lets it fly under the radar which is also very nice.
This version has indeed a lot of success and can match quite many events.
