5970 for me..
Personally, I think the round chrono pushers on the 3970 look goofy and wrong. The 5970 has its proportions and dial layout just right. I do not have a large wrist, but it looks great on me.
I do get annoyed at the winding sometimes. The power reserve is not long at 40 hours (if that) and I travel in addition to wearing a lot of other watches. It is nice to have some one-on-one time to wind or reset, but it can get bothersome at times too.
It is a great watch in any metal, with very regal presence. FWIW, I think it will be viewed as an iconic Patek well into the future.

how ever it is a very personal choice. If you decide to go for the 3970 I think you would actually find yourself saving money not adding it.
