I was very much interested in this new model since its presentation at Baselworld. As I never had the chance to see it live I never had a full impression of the watch, its size, its dial, its weight, etc.
Today I’ve got the call from my dealer saying the watch has finally arrived. I immediately went over to him for a first live impression. All I can say is that I like it a lot. The dial is much nicer in real than on photos - as usually with Patek watches. Due to the steel case it feels very lightweight. The proportions of diameter and thickness of the case are very balanced for my eyes. The strap is matching trending pretty well and is not as bad as often stated.
All in all this is a great new version of a Calatrava with an interesting and sometimes helpful complication.
Luckily I could buy the watch under the condition that the dealer could keep it for another week or so for showing it to other customers/collectors.
Therefore I can probably pick it up by end of next week hopefully.

thanks to the gorgeous lugs. I too was worried about the 40mm size but once I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised. I think 40mm was necessary for a dial with so much happening on it.
You´re absolutely right, mate. Thers is a lot going on on that dial and a certain size is necessary for an outbalanced look.
The 2-stepped lugs are extremely beautiful and well made. I prefer them very much over the 3-stepped lugs of the 5320

and even though both watches are 40mm, I found the 5320 too large even with the same lugs!! Again I think the busy dial of the 5212 helps.
Yes, Kari, I like the steel as well. But the downside of the steel is that this model will gain a lot of attraction and attention of "dealer-collectors" who are just expecting a possible quick profit due to the steel case.
I would like the 5212 to the same extend if it would be in WG.
Steel is the strongest material if comparing to gold and platinum. Period.

No, not hand painted.
But the font is taken from the hand-writing of one of the Patek designers.

Do I pretend too much from PP? Does the watch cost too little to actually make it by hand? I do not believe...
What do you mean with "doing by hand"? Every single letter and number hand painted on every single dial???
That would be simply impossible imho. I find it a very interesting idea and design achievement to use the handwriting of a personand create an individual new font type out of it. Cool ideas like that is what I expect and like on Patek.
... why impossible? once these works were handmade, and even more complex works. And even today, some artisan Watchmakers do much more demanding jobs by hand.
Hand-painted dials would not be a problem for PP, but they would be a cost. A cost that has been saved through printing. But for me, high watchmaking is something else ... PP has the watchmakers and the right skills, I think only the will is missing. imho...
