Off topic: Patek Philippe + Modest vehicle, anyone?

 By: Virgo Thing : August 23rd, 2010-19:24
My peers ridicule me for wearing a watch that is worth more than my automobile (5065a, purchased pre-owned). I always tell them it's a matter of priorities. The Aquanaut will still be ticking long after even my '00 Toyota Corolla, which is nonetheless a d...

please tell your friend that

The Patek will keep appreciating in 10 years while your vehicle will depreciate to zero value in 5 years. Tell him to go figure your smart investment. I never understand why people will spend millions on a vehicle knowing so well that they depreciate at l...

I sooooo agree with you both. [nt]

I can tell you why someone would spend so much on a car

 By: tourbillon001 : August 24th, 2010-20:21
because it brings a huge smile to their face every time they drive it. I know lots of people that buy exactly what they like and never think twice about it value when it comes to watches. I just do the same thing with my car which are toys to me

i dont think its ridicule..

perhaps just in jest. how about the gentlemen who drives a S class merc, and wears a plastic casio?

That is the TRUE spirit of a devoted enthusiast! My respect!

To sacrifice and cut down in order to enable the next watch dream speaks for a real pasionated watch fan. I personally left discussions about prices paid for exquisite time pieces far behind my, a long time ago. Yes, it is an irrational thing to pay such ...

In SG, where it's the most expensive city in the world to own a car

 By: patrickmaniac : August 24th, 2010-06:26
Your logic makes absolute sense. The depreciation of a Merc C180 over a period of 5 years can be about 40-50k SGD which is approx 29 to 36k USD. Enough to buy some serious stuff. I have posted a thread over at time out previously on this issue. Btw, I am ...

value appreciation

 By: ivanclai : August 24th, 2010-20:53
I totally agree with the proposition on value appreciation on watches v depreciation for cars. For me, if PP depreciates like normal cars, I will not think about it. Some cars like limited addition Ferrari or some other antiques do appreciate, then it mak...

Cars

 By: watch-er : August 27th, 2010-09:04
In todays world, new expensive cars are really a bad buy, unless you commit to driving them 10 years, I don't care what it is. Most Pateks are a good long term investment but tough if you what to sell early on. But then its not about investments, but prio...

Appreciating PP's

 By: Expat : August 27th, 2010-13:07
Most Pateks appreciate? What makes you think that?

I'm sorry but...

 By: habiii : August 27th, 2010-17:39
appreciation/depreciation doesn't matter. Spend your money the way you want to spend it. Let your friends spend their's on what they want or, more likely, what they think will impress others. I've had watches. I've had cars. Different things bring you ple...

I may be mocked for my Smart car...

but my watch collection gets taken pretty seriously. I can live with that..!

I drive a modest car

 By: Peter Chester : August 29th, 2010-09:18
I agree with Virgo Thing. I drive a 9 year old Honda Civic. Cheap and reliable and has almost stopped depreciating. I wear a Rolex and I am saving up for a PP. The less I spend on cars the more I have for watches. If I had plenty of money I would have a h...

I guess it is a Bugatti, the fastest road car every built with a W12 engine. Am I right? Super watch matched super car.
