that's pretty sad...

I was talking to one of the staff at the Patek salon in Geneva last time and he told me that nowadays bad guys actually are more and more familiar with less known models and know how to identify a "valuable" timepiece even if it's not a RO or nautilus or super rare rolex etc...

a shame though, hope that woman is alright and although it's sad her timepiece got stolen at least she's still alive !

We prob need to keep well known watches under a cuff or covered

Up somehow, especially gold watches, a gold Rolex may be asking for trouble these days, should be worn discretely. The issue with having something really really nice is that someone else ends up wanting it. Horrible, nonetheless.

I totally agree!

Now that the summer is coming to an end , it will be easier to conceal watches . Stay safe!

Safe

Be safe. Showing your expensive watch to impress others is delicate. Covering under a cuff when visiting a shop street and market is smart. Always people which can not wait till succes comes from a job and career, so hide your status symbol wisely. The st...

This really sickens me to hear this,

We are supposed to be living in a civilized society. As a people, it’s a shame that we still cannot get over jealously or hate or greed.

Civilization is overrated...

Humans are inherently selfish, it's an in-born trait. We are civilized mainly because we live in a society where there is order and abundance; and society requires us to behave a certain way. But in a time of war (and for those impoverished people or the ...

It’s sad, but I agree with you.

The heinous acts we have done to each other, “right” and “wrong” is really a made up word. Sometimes it is in the “decider’s” choice what is right or wrong.

Good point!

In classical sense; Robin Hood who stole from the rich to give to the poor was "wrong" but for those who were poor, he was in the "right." They say Pablo Escobar was seen by many as a hero, as a "robin hood" character, because of his many charitable proje...

It’s all perspective Dear Sire,

Everyone is “justified” in their own way. Some people we call “crazy” may think that “we,” all of us outside of himself, is crazy. Honestly, who are we to judge? I guess that’s why I try as best as I can to be happy, it’s all in your head, to a certain re...

Terrible people victimized innocent people, sad and horrified to hear this news.

Hope your friend can recover soon both physically and psychologically.

Thank you , although this was watchrookie's post on Instagram so iI don't know the victim.

I am sure they are targeting affluent neighbourhoods as it is most likely people will have valuable watches or items of jewellery

Yikes

This is known to happen in Jakarta too. I was told of stories of guys whose hands were chopped off while walking down the street. I guess the precaution is to wear long sleeves, and be more stealthy.

What a tragedy! Hope she will recover soon in good health !

IMO current Covid19 situation has worsened the crime situation unfortunately 😢

I agree. So many people are out of jobs and don't know where their next meal is coming from..

 By: Centurionone : August 20th, 2020-11:57
but I am not sure if those are the people that commit these crimes or professional gangs..

Glad to read this post has all the pertinent information...

A previous post similar to this had so many errors and mis-spellings that it raised the question about the accuracy of the situation and possibly the serial number. Keep in mind, accuracy of the situation is important as we do not want to villify an owner...

A sign of the times and a useful wake-up call. Many people are suffering to varying degrees everywhere. I've rarely worn watches since the initial lockdown. Personal safety considerations aside, it may appear insensitive especially when meeting friends in...

World is going mad imo. You just can’t enjoy the nice things in life anymore with looking across your shoulder. I really hate this and was hoping we could protect ourselves against this madness

Absolutely horrific for the owner

Is the frequency of these thefts increasing in London, relative to five years ago? Anecdotally, it seems that is the case. Not just Patek and Rolex, the thieves are targeting anything that looks expensive or familiar. This is the dark side of iconic, blue...

Of course there are always thieves and creeps... in any times... but right now... is a time for under the radar beaters... something you love but which is not recognized by 'everyone' as valuable...
