Questions about minute repeaters.

 By: Huei : May 8th, 2020-18:43
Is it ok to activate the minute repeater function without winding the watch first? Will that do any damage to the watch? Does the minute repeater function require to be activated regularly to ensure functioning properly? On the other hand, the more you ac...

Although I do not have the answers, may I first...

Having a PP MR will be an ultimate grail for me. It’s the best of the best. I hope one day I will be able to acquire one 😄 Just that I always have these questions in mind so would be nice to clear up my mind in advance.

Thanks Nicolas for the info.

It’s good to know the repeating mechanism works independently from the time movement. When u pick up the watch and so eager to play the music in your ears, you sometimes will forget to wind it and just go straight for the sound 😅

My manual of the IWC

advises to wait at least 30 seconds after the sound has stopped.

Perhaps

Hi Huei,

 By: MTR : May 8th, 2020-23:50
are you a proud owner of an MR? My personal experience: 1. no 2. no 3. no (for mine = IWC Minute Repeater), but I am not sure for „any brand“ „forever“ since some constructions are more delicate than others. For me for example the Patek 5078 is one of the...

Hi Thomas,

Really enjoyed reading the threads regarding your IWC MR. It’s a beautiful and classic MR from IWC. Actually I also have a IWC skeleton portuguese MR and a JLC master MR. My grail will be a PP MR one day.

Hi Huei!

perhaps we share the same desire for a certain grail Patek MR? 😊 Thank you for your very kind words about my posts regarding my beloved IWC MR! 😊 Do you have a nice pic of your IWC skeleton Portuguese MR and your JLC master MR? It seems you have much more...

Hi Thomas

Yes my grail is also a PP MR. Torn between (dreaming dreaming) a 5078P and a 5178G as I like the 40mm case size of the 5178 but may prefer a non-cathedral gong for now...... Here are a pic of my IWC and JLC. Apologize for the poor photographic skills as t...

Dear Huei,

 By: MTR : May 10th, 2020-02:49
that are really marvelous pieces of art you show us on your wrist. The pics are good too. Wonderful... For me the Patek 5078 is the clear favorite over the 5178 simply because it’s dial exudes pure perfection and is more romantic. But that’s of course jus...

This is for sure a great watch.

and it’s growing on me every time I see it. I will do some research now. I am afraid .... 😬 Best Thomas P.S.: I think I have to pay you back with some nice pics of my Cameron...

Hehehehe

And I WILL have to write a lot more of mine. Half-sorry Thomas

One thing

 By: watch-er : May 9th, 2020-06:48
is never touch the winding crown until at least 30 seconds after the sounds stop. The repeater mechanism must be completely through its cycle before any crown movement can be made. This is why Patek hand delivers these watches so as to advise of this. Per...

Yes, you wear out

 By: watch-er : May 9th, 2020-06:52
the MR as you use it. But these are designed to last centuries so the wear is a non-issue if you keep it properly oiled through proper servicing. If you never used the MR it may dry out prematurely as with any mechanical device with tight tolerates of sur...

Interesting!

I haven’t thought about the possibility that also the MR mechanism might dry out. Completely logical. Thanks for reminding. Best Thomas
