Would you trade a 5146g (slate dial) for a 5712 ss??

Hello all, I know these questions can be frowned upon but I am looking for opinions as I don't have the ability to compare the two side by side. I currently have the 5146g and love the watch but find myself only wearing it to work (I wear a suit M-F). Lat...

Wait... Yes! I would. If I only wore the watch upside down with the movement showing instead of the dial. Because I really like the 240 caliber movement on the 5712. Too bad the bracelet on the 5712 does not make this possible. No, I would not ever trade ...

It seemsto me that you have 80% made up your mind? I was orginally undesided after taking another look at the 5712. But now in hindsight having though of the reason why I parted with my 5140, which was, that I struggled to read the date especially in the ...

You parted with your 5140G? Since that is one of my favorite Pateks, you'll have to forgive me for being a little sad. On a brighter note, what did you get in place of it? This message has been edited by patrick_y on 2009-10-23 10:09:44

Keep the 5146G...

...and apply the cash you'd save toward a pre-owned Nautilus or a VC Overseas. Good luck with your decision.

Well... they are very different...

But I must confess I'm not a great fan of the QA complication. And I find that the 5712 has one of the most fantastic dials from Patek. Between them, my heart goes to the 5712 without any doubt. Fr.Xavier

I thought long and hard about the 5146G and the 5712G and ended up with the 5712G for a number of reasons. The Nautilus is iconic, the 5146G has a more generic shape and dial layout. The Nautilus has a fantastic 3/4 rotor movement, the 5146 a "standard" f...

I've been there too..

not specifically with a trade like yours, but similar. After many experiences, I learned the hard way that my infatuation with a watch I wanted would overwhelm all good judgement just because I wanted something new or different, and I rationalized myself ...
