For quite a long time I had been looking for a well-cared-for vintage watch with three hands.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-08:31
Something dressy and something from one of the three Swiss brands which most people historically consider the best: AP, PP or VC. Recently I have come under the "sway", for want of a better way to state it, of a Patek collector, well-known and very well-r...

yeah baby [nt]

Mike.....you have one of the finest Calatravas...period. The movement is very special indeed...coming in relatively few models. I suspect Julian will be along quite soon.... The case design, the crown, the movement, it is a superb Calatrava......

for me.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 16th, 2017-09:02
......vintage Calatrava does something that nothing else can. It has something extra.... that vintage feel....that simplicity.......the craftmanship of the movement. I think I started with the idea that it added something extra to my collection. Since sta...

Now you gotta take that one to disco;)

Big congrats my friend you are on fire! Cheers D

I will if you'll come with me.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-08:51
I need cover from a young man so I don't get laughed out of the club. Thanks for the well-wishes, Damjan!

Congratulation, Padj!

By: blomman Mr Blue : August 16th, 2017-08:50
Lovely! And the wooden plank shot is now mandatory! Best Blomman

Thanks, Blomman!

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-08:59
The wooden plank will stay in the repertoire for a long time.

Absolutely Charming...

 By: CL : August 16th, 2017-08:53
I have seen this watch on a gentleman who worked for Patek NYC before. It was stunning in a very quiet manner. Vintage Patek is the best !!!

Thank you CL.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:00
It has a real presence on the wrist, even though on the small side for me.

An exquisite piece.

 By: Chimaera : August 16th, 2017-09:04
And for the maritime folks (Kari?) the "Disco Volante" was also the yacht/hydrofoil in "Thunderball".

That I remembered.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:45
I wonder if any one on the yacht wore one. Thanks, Chimaera.

36mm, right?

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 16th, 2017-09:08
For guys who are secure enough in themselves to wear smaller watches!

Yes. 36.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:47
I have always preferred slightly bigger cases. But I am quite secure in my manliness. I wear my Father's 30mm Longines every now and then-depending on the crowd.

I always feel that Vintage watch...

 By: CL : August 18th, 2017-17:30
should look small on the wrist, 34-36mm are perfect. As for modern watches, 37-39mm look best.

Huge congratulations my friend. Very very nice PPP (Patek Philippe Pussycat 😁)

 By: Alkiro1 : August 16th, 2017-09:23
Enjoy and wear it in the best of your health. Best wishes Alkiro

Thank you, my friend.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:47
Pia and the pussy cat are loving it.

LOL, LOL, you are a true Joe victim

Huge congratz Padj!

By: Mark in Paris : August 16th, 2017-09:41
A great choice as the Disco Dolante is something very much appreciated in the Patek vintage world. I agree that the Calatrava line from Patek (vintage and modern) is very appealing and I look at the vintage ones especially with very much pleasure when I v...

Many thanks, Mark!

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:50
Indeed, since visiting London and Paris this summer a whole new world has opened up. And I'm quite happy to have gone this route rather than the other two brands.

Thank you, Edward.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-09:52
Yes, I have received great help in this aspect of my collecting. From a great friend.

Congratulations Padj!

 By: willski : August 16th, 2017-10:42
That is a true beauty, and the movement is just a killer (love the rotor decoration as well!!!) Great case, dial, and the condition looks fantastic. Very, very charming! These new Swiss flings are making your Germans jealous :P

Thanks, Willis.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-10:58
The Germans are all okay. They are just getting a needed break.

Wow! What a wonderful watch!!

You should get one of those.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-12:04
Then we can get together and take turns wearing and driving our Disco Volantes.

Hahaha - great idea, but.....

 By: nomadgiles : August 16th, 2017-12:07

 By: watch-guy.com : August 16th, 2017-12:34
case, dial and movement A truly under rayed piece which flies under the radar You can have your PN and big crowns but vintage PP is the epitome of watch collecting A lovely piece- congratulations Julian

Thank you, Julian.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-13:05
Nice to read these words from you.

Sehr gute Wahl!

By: COUNT DE MONET : August 16th, 2017-13:00

Ich geniesse es schon.

Hey what an excellent choice !!! It looks absolutely gorgeous...

 By: Mike H : August 16th, 2017-14:06
...and the 12-600 AT is certainly one of the very finest automatic movements, actually the first automatic calibre made by Patek, the same that was in the mythic 2526. And 36mm is almost oversized for the period. At that time, the normal size for a men's ...

Thank you, Mike!

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-15:22
Yes, given the era it would be a big watch. And it's size was one of the factors that drew me to it, as anything smaller I'd have shied away from wearing. I have to say I really love this piece. Been wearing it all day. Cheers

I am not surprised... and I am sure it will have a lot of wrist time

 By: Mike H : August 16th, 2017-15:28
Enjoy it and wear it in the best of health my friend 😉

on a time only vintage Calatrava....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 17th, 2017-03:22
.....i feel comfortable at 35mm and upwards. I have tried smaller, and it gets harder to love it for me. At 35mm, it works because of that vintage feel. On the 2552, given teh shape of the case and its 36mm, its very easy to wear...formal and casual actua...

Wow

 By: keks : August 16th, 2017-14:33
Love the 2552, congratulations on acquiring one! It is a wonderful piece and I really like your venture into the world of Patek. Strong start to say the least with the pieces you have chosen to include in your collection so far. I have no doubts there wil...

Thanks, keks!

 By: TheMadDruid : August 16th, 2017-15:25
I have gone deep into Patek in a pretty short time. Now I'll sit back and appreciate what I have. This one is surely a beauty. Hey! My Tiffany beat your "fox" Friday night!

Indeed quite an acquisition spree lately!

 By: keks : August 16th, 2017-21:16
Hope you will find lots of pleasure with these amazing ones. The 2552 certainly was unexpected given your 5230 and 5960 just having landed! Need to see more pics of Tiffany in action soon!

Yes sir! [nt]

 By: TheMadDruid : August 17th, 2017-05:27

 By: KMII : August 16th, 2017-22:36
What a wonderful piece - and what a better way to see tomorrow from yesterday's perspective than with a flying saucer! Looking forward to seeing more of it!

Thank you, KM.

superb [nt]

 By: Baron - Mr Red : August 17th, 2017-05:26

It is finished beautifully.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 17th, 2017-18:37
Can understand you feelings toward it.

Very nice

 By: FRAM : August 19th, 2017-02:21
I only buy new watches but this vintage watch could change my mind

Thanks, FRAM.

 By: TheMadDruid : August 19th, 2017-04:49
I'm hesitant in the vintage market-afraid of being taken advantage of. And modern watches benefit from so much technical advancement. But now and then an old beauty comes along...

Thank you so much! [nt]
