A 5170p will

Jul 19, 2015,06:21 AM

be interesting to see. I wonder if it would change the views of the majority towards the 5170.

I'm very pleased to have found some like minded fans of the 5170 in this thread. I have been so accustomed to the opinions of the watch aficionados that the 5070 is the watch to opt for. I love each of the 5170 dial options and look forward to picking one up in the future.

My first Patek Philippe 5170G

 By: GT3 : July 11th, 2015-15:50
Hello guys, Finally I decided to go for it! My first PP 5170G! I absolutely love it! Here are some pics: I love it on my wrist! Here' s a shot with it's new born 2015 sibling Not bad either. ;-) But I prefer the pulsation scale on the dial. Can you guess ...

That's a nice one, though most of forum member post I read here will ...

 By: Clueless_Collector : July 11th, 2015-17:49
pick the black. Nevertheless, it's right to go with your feelings, see which one talks to you best. I picked my Nautilus 5726 white dial, too. Congratulations on your 1st PP. I know this feeling, still fresh. Rgds Raymond

I second your choice

 By: watch-er : July 11th, 2015-18:15
far more character to the white dial.

A very sophisticated choice,

 By: dr.kol : July 11th, 2015-18:46
congrats. I love the softness of the winding of the movement. Best, Kari

First, welcome to the forum.

 By: masterspiece : July 11th, 2015-19:09
Second, for your first Patek that is some choice! :-) Congratulations!. Aloha, Bob

White/ Silver for me too

 By: Cinch : July 12th, 2015-02:22
It's nice to see some photos of the silver/ white and black together. I agree I think the white is the better choice here, the black subdials look a little too big for me no overall it does seem to miss the pulsation scale around the outside. Excellent ch...

Pulsation scale

 By: thekonger : July 16th, 2015-19:16
The pulsation scale seems irrelevant unless the owner is in the medical field. Isthe5070 a fly back?

Again,

By: Mark in Paris : July 17th, 2015-08:56
the scale is not here as a "tool" but as a decoration. You don't seem to like it and that's a personal choice of course. But you have to consider that some people may like the way it looks. Furthermore, this scale is refering to the first chronographs the...

Fantastic!...

 By: JBP99P : July 12th, 2015-02:43
it was my first PP also and a very special acquisition for me. I don't agree that most members would pick the black dial, the white version with the pulsations scale and breguet numbers make for a unique watch. Enjoy it. JBP

Personally

 By: el1125 : July 18th, 2015-18:06
i chose also 5170 white dial. While I feel Black is nice, the white is sublime! Especially with the scale reference.

Congratulations!

 By: joenghenry : July 12th, 2015-03:06
The first PP in house chronograph movement is beautiful. I am sure the pressing of chronograph buttons, especially the return zero one, is an enjoyable experience. The dial with Breguet numbers is simply great! It is a classic doctor's watch with the 15 p...

Congrats for this great 5170!

You made the right choice! This dial enhances the beauty of the applied figures. Congrats! Fx

First Love is the Deepest

 By: MTF : July 12th, 2015-04:00
GT3 The first Love is the deepest. Congratulations on a great choice. I would choose the dial version that you did too. I am biased being a physician so the pulsograph markings are a natural choice! One of the few Patek Philippe watches that appeal to me....

I'm very happy for you

By: Mark in Paris : July 12th, 2015-09:38
I'm preparing an article about this version of the 5170G and think it is a very important Patek chronograph. I prefer this version too because of the pulsometric scale and the smaller subsidiary dials. Even if the black dial one looks very nice too and is...

I look forward to reading this Mark

 By: Cinch : July 12th, 2015-10:19
ive always been disappointed in the opinion of most others on th 5170. It's mostly disregarded and seen as inferior to the 5070. I don't think it's just because I have smaller wrists but to me a classic watch is not 42mm, it's just too much. I much prefer...

Congrats!

Welcome to the forum!! What a lovely first Patek. Superb taste and an amazing choice!

The 5070 really has a special place and it was the first chrono since the 1463 and 1579

By: Mark in Paris : July 12th, 2015-14:46
Hence, their success and special place in the modern period. I agree with you that the 5170 is underestimated. That's why I have something to say about that :) Thanks Nick. Cheers, Mark

Welcome!

White Dial Is More Interesting and Less Common

 By: patekova : July 21st, 2015-13:17
Congratulations on your first Patek and a wonderful one at that! Pulsation dials are historically a prized rarity in Patek chronographs. The black dial is beautiful and finally Patek got it right by using leaf hands to go with the Breguet dial, which to m...

Big congrats! :)

It\'s a lovely chronograph with a superb movement. I haven\'t seen the black dial version yet but I suspect the pulsograph white dial version you have has a tad more "vintage" charm. Great choice and enjoy your new PP in the best of health! Cheers Robin

Wonderful watch. Congratulations.

 By: TheMadDruid : July 13th, 2015-08:38
You didn't just dip you toes into the Patek lake. You made a big, big splash! Fantastic watch.

Haha thanks! [nt]

1st pick

 By: keks : July 18th, 2015-01:39
Firstly congratulations on a super watch. Quite a splash entry into the world of PP I must say. I suppose I am in the minority here, but I much prefer the 5170 to the 5070. Better case size and timeless design. 5070 are wonderful in their own way, but in ...

I'm writing something about the 5170 and its real place in patek's history, hope you'll likeit. Cheers, Mark

Very

exciting! Looking forward to that. I'm still considering 5070 and waiting for 5170P. Best, Kari

Thank you very much!

 By: GT3 : July 18th, 2015-16:10

5170p

 By: el1125 : July 20th, 2015-21:30
woukd be interesting to see what dial color they choose for the 5170p. Anybody think blue? Hmm.

I did

By: Mark in Paris : July 21st, 2015-02:16
but thought maybe, as I told Nick, that the blue is already very present in today's catalogue (5270, (5524), 5124, 5200... without counting the Nautilus line or Elipse) The black is taken by the 5170G so I wonder what they can do next. A white one could b...

I forgot the Salmon indeed

By: Mark in Paris : July 21st, 2015-04:30
Would they dare to propose it in a much wider offer than what they usually did? Who knows. The RG and black dial is a nice combo we can see today with the 5205R. It could indeed look really good :) Nice guess keks :) Cheers, Mark

I hope that's true keks

 By: GT3 : July 21st, 2015-14:09
Salmon with Breguet numerals would be absolutely stunning and the 5170R with black stick dial too! Let us pray. Best, H

Definitley the 5170 is a watch which deserves much more interest

By: Mark in Paris : July 21st, 2015-02:11
However, for the P reference, I don't know what they will do. I thought about the black dial... before they launched it for the G version this year. So, leaves blue but I think there are already many blue dials in the colelction and as the 5070P was alrea...

What a great 1st Patek!

Congrats vaderlim!

 By: GT3 : July 22nd, 2015-12:26
It looks amazing! Every time I wear it I love it more and more. To me this is a true classic! Personally I can't wait till the 5170R and the 5170P are finished and the model will be discontinued. I think it will be much more appreciated after they stopped...

Congrats to u too
