Buckle Project

A couple months ago, a strap maker showed me a gorgeous ammo bag that he had available to make a strap out of. I did not need a strap, but I could not pass up the amazing leather, so I had him make me a strap. Unsure what watch the strap would ultimately be mounted on, I had him make the strap without a buckle. When I received the finished strap and placed it next to my PAMs, it was immediately obvious which watch the strap belonged on . . . my 360 (even though I already have two other ammo straps for my 360).

Having decided that my new strap belonged on my 360, I had to find a buckle for the strap. I quickly discovered that the options for screw-in and/or spring bar PVD buckles are rather limited, and none of the available off-the-shelf buckles inspired me. Therefore, I decided to have a buckle custom made.

I decided that I wanted a buckle with a Pig on it. However, rather than a cut-out Pig, I wanted an embossed Pig. I found such a buckle that I really liked but, of course, it was not PVD.

The next step was to find someone to PVD my buckle. After contacting several after-market PVD shops, I found a place suitable for a single, small job of this nature. I had the buckle shipped directly to the PVD shop and hoped for the best.

Earlier today, I received my new PVD buckle. I am really pleased with the results . . . particularly the greyish tone of the PVD finish so as to match the 360 finish.

I apologize for the terrible iPhone photo:

Craig
