Seiko

I changed the bracelet to strap.  What do you think?  Please pardon the shallow DOF as I was too excited to set the camera on the tripod
This is my first Grand Seiko (this model seems to have been discontinued but I got it cheap from a pawn shop in Japan), and I may get another manual wind one (then I may sell this .... ?)

Now I understand why Grand Seiko has been so praised here.  This may be one of the best kept secret.  By far the best value/quality in this price range, IMHO.  I wonder why Seiko doesn't sell Grand Seiko other than Japan or neighboring Asian countries....?

Your massive collection post kinda inspired me.  Your collection is very impressive.
I will go next for SBGW series.  Hopefully 003, but may be 005 (because of the blue second hand) and convert it to strap again.
2010 is the 50th anniversary of GS brand and I expect more special LE come out from Seiko and various Master Shops LE and if there is any manual winding with see through back, I will get one.  Stay tuned for the announcement from Seiko as well as Master Shops.  If you are interested and need help, I would be more than happy to assist you or any regular here to get one (if you can also trust me, I mean )- I will probably be stationed in Tokyo by the middle of this year.

Why Seiko doesn't sell Grand Seiko more globally is beyond me.  Maybe lack of capacity?  Seiko is a big company and makes tons of watches every year, but for Grand Seiko, from what I gather, there are much manual touch by a handful of watchmakers...

I've handled and tried them on before, these Grand Seiko's, and I've been thoroughly impressed with the finishing and quality which I regard to be better than many other higher priced brands out there. Congratulations on this very beautiful piece, and the black dial with the red does make for a very striking contrast.

Nice watch.

Every time I go to visit Japan, I am always on the hunt for Grand Seikos, Seiko Spring Drives, Credor, and those other "Japanese Domestic Market" watches. I never seem to be able to find them; it's easier for me to acquire a Lange than it is to acquire one of these watches.

Truly a true enthusiast's watch; for someone who isn't concerned about "branding" but for someone who is wants a well-made, surprisingly well-finished, and very reliable timepiece.

Congrats!  This is a good-looking timepiece!  I really wish Seiko would sell them in America.  I love my Seiko 5, and would seriously consider a Grand Seiko if they retailed in the US.

Having bought this separately from an AD (in Japan) and re-realizing the retail cost (USD200!!), I think it is worth mentioning and showing more details of this GS SS deployant buckle.

Of course, the generic deployant buckles can be bought at 20 or 30, maybe, but considering, for example, AP log skeleton SS deployant buckle cost $600, this $200 is a steal and very comfortable + easy to attach/detach.  If you consider converting bracelet to strap, I highly recommend to obtain this deployant together.

i've had an SBGM009 GMT, but sold it and just kept 2 vintage pieces. 

a great brand kept unfairly from the western world by the forces within Seiko.

...I too have the silver dialled GMT, which I like very much apart from one aspect: the multiplicity of different fonts in the (somewhat unnecessary) writing on the dial. However, looking at your black dialled more sporty model it looks as though the words seem better to sink into the background.

And as other noted, the deployant is just too good to pass up so...

It was a bit difficult to accept a Seiko at first... but honestly, it's a great watch for a Steal price!

Really like the strap & deployant combo. Wouldn't have it any other way!

Now,even though I was very tempted a while ago into getting a GS,it's getting very difficult to resist after seeing this post.
