Seiko consultant Kojiro Shiraishi is about to set sail in one of the world’s toughest yacht races, the Vendée Globe, as the first ever sailor from Asia.




He will wear the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster, a GPS Solar watch Kojiro has helped to design.

And usually not a fan of 'arrow' tipped hands... except old Omegas.... but just at a fast glance, first quick impression, I like this watch! I hope I don't insult it by saying it looks like a great beater. hell, maybe 'beater' is a compliment because it implies that you would wear it a LOT. However, upon closer examination it is FAR too HUUUUGE. Almost 49mm, ai yi yi..... Well, it got me for a few seconds at least...

As it's the ceramic crown and pusher protection that adds about 3-4 mm width. And it's solar, with 12-satellite GPS tracking circuitry too.

If you are sailing around the world in your own, as he did, I can see the advantage and there's no reason the size would hinder a sailor.

But for us? It's big!

Designing watches with people who use them - mountaineering, now sailing... Probably not one I will buy (were I to go all out on size, it would still be the SBDB015) but a great step.
