Rolex

Last week, I had the opportunity to play with a Daytona Paul Newman for a few hours... Till one of us came to pick it up.

I would like to thank him ( he knows who he is ) for that opportunity, as it is much different to see this kind of watch for a few minutes in a shop with bad light conditions, and to have the time to get all the true sense of such a piece.

I was allowed to wear it and to play with it, then to fully get the power of this watch.



This is a strange chronograph:

Nothing special, nor about the case, nor about the dial, in my opinion.



Well, at first sight, during the first moments...



You begin to pay attention to the very attractive white dial, black counters, and black railroad surrounding the dial.

And to love it!



A dangerous watch, indeed.

I'm more attracted by the GMTs and the Subs, but I must admit that now, I understand how and why people can love them so much!

So i had a look at the 'new' Tudor Heritage Chrono today and it's not bad .... who knows ?

As I said, I'm more into GMTs and Diving watches to consider adding a PN in my collection, but it is also very cool to know that there are some marvellous watches that I wouldn't be able to get.

I was lucky enough to see this watch in the metal a couple of months ago and it is not only the rarest Cosmograph reference, but above all a beauty.

There is a lot of class in two color dials, whereas three color dials look sportier.

Congrats to the new owner !

He owes us a group picture of his Cosmographs ;-)

you don't see many around, thats for sure. And even less that have not been damaged. That beauty on your wrist is the only one I have actually seen. The 6262 is the other that I rarely see. But what a comparison between something like the 6239/6262 and the 6264. The bakelite is something that always makes me shudder a bit. I just can't go down the path of the GMT bakelite simpley because at any random moment it can shatter. Just give it a ding against something and whoosh...bezel is gone. You get that a bit with the 6264. And the reason to own one of these 6264s is probably entirely to do with that bezel phenomenon. Pushdown pushers vrs screwdown pushers..... steel bezel vrs steel insert....yeah yeah...sigma dial versus big reds.....black sub-dial vrs white sub-dial.... and on and on the comparison can go. But bakelite...arggggh...that is a big challenge.

I am not sure i can give you much of a good reason for owning PN. You put it well. Its nothing special.

Until it gets on the wrist...then it becomes a Jedi's lightsaber.....

Feel the force in it Nicolas....the force in the PN is very strong.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love and Daytonas, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind.

I do love it. the subdials seem highlighted by the cream/white dial. really works for me.

But I must admit I am more an Explorer/Explorer II person myself....

subtileness is like anything I ve ever seen in a watch.  A newman dial has so much to look at besides the time.

I had the same thing as you Nicolas. I was really caught by it and could not leave it alone anymore. I wear it almost every day.
