Rolex

have a friend whose been told by a few watchmakers that his 1988 datejust has to have the movement replaced. curiously what does rolex charge for such a replacement. feel free to PM me with any info.

...on the watchcase and/or bracelet/strap material (ss, gold or platinum?).  It might be less of an expense to melt down the gold or platinum, sell it and buy a brand new Rolex.  If ss, try to sell it whole as is, let someone else worry about replacing the movement, and go for a new Rolex.  Or, if you can find a good refurbished movement, put that in it.  =:^D

the friend wants to keep this specific watch as it has sentimental value. its a stainless steel datejust (sorry should have been specific) i had just never seen what a total movement replacement costs, and wanted to give him some advice.

Rolex charges a lot.  A new movement would cost a minimum of a couple of thousand dollars.  Nevertheless, most movements don't need to be replaced unless there is a lot of water damage within the watch.   If there is a significant amount of damage to the movement and it has to be replaced it would be cheaper for you to buy a used movement on Ebay and not from Rolex.  I would take the watch to an excellent watchmaker in your area to see what they think needs to be replaced.
